Cookie policy

Last updated: 31 August 2026

The short version

Nothing except the consent cookie itself runs until you agree to it. If you decline, no analytics, no session recording and no advertising cookies are set at all.

Everything below loads through Google Tag Manager, and consent is handled by Cookiebot. You can change your mind at any time using the cookie settings link in the banner.

Strictly necessary

These are set regardless, because without them the site cannot remember your choice.

CookieSet byPurposeExpires
CookieConsentCookiebotRemembers what you agreed to12 months

Analytics

Only set if you accept analytics.

CookieSet byPurposeExpires
_gaGoogle AnalyticsTells returning visits apart from new ones24 months
_ga_*Google AnalyticsKeeps session state24 months
_clckMicrosoft ClarityLinks your activity across pages12 months
_clskMicrosoft ClarityGroups a single visit together1 day
CLIDMicrosoft ClarityIdentifies the browser for recordings12 months

Microsoft Clarity records your session. That means how you move, scroll and click on the page, played back later as a recording, plus heatmaps built from many visitors. Clarity masks text you type into forms by default, so your name, email and message are not captured in the recording.

Advertising

Only set if you accept marketing cookies. These let advertising platforms tell whether an ad led to an enquiry.

CookieSet byPurposeExpires
_gcl_auGoogle AdsLinks an ad click to a later enquiry3 months
_fbpMetaMeasures whether a Meta ad led to anything3 months
frMetaAd delivery and measurement3 months
bcookie, lidcLinkedInIdentifies the browser for ad measurementUp to 12 months
li_sugr, UserMatchHistoryLinkedInMatches visits to LinkedIn ad campaignsUp to 3 months

Not a cookie, but you should know about it

This site also stores a record in your browser's local storage under the key bgt_attr. It holds how you first found the site and how you arrived most recently: the source, any advertising click identifier, the page you landed on and the date.

It is only read when you submit a form, so I can see which marketing produces enquiries. It clears itself after 90 days, and clearing your browser data removes it immediately. Because it is not a cookie it is not covered by the banner, which is exactly why it is written down here.

Turning them off

  • Use the cookie settings link in the banner to change or withdraw consent
  • Every browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings
  • Opt out of Google Analytics everywhere with the Google opt-out add-on
  • Blocking cookies will not stop you using this site. Nothing here depends on them
